I think it's important to give back to my community because the concern for others is the basis of civil
society. While it is essential that everyone take care of oneself first (lest it become undue burden on
others), taking care only of oneself denies one’s humanity. Giving back is the essence of civil society
and is everyone’s duty to the extent possible. It should not be forgotten that giving back is also a
reward in itself as it maintains one’s dignity, self-respect (particularly when giving back is anonymous)
and respect of others.
I am thankful for the opportunity to serve and gain valuable experience along the way.
