FamilyWize: Connecting People with Prescriptions

FamilyWize: Connecting People with Prescriptions

In an effort to activate local volunteers and promote a healthy community, United Way of Olmsted County is partnering with Rochester Community

Schools and the University of Minnesota-Rochester (UMR) to further expand educational outreach of FamilyWize to local Olmsted County businesses, organizations and partners.

FamilyWize, in partnership with United Way, is a prescription drug savings program which provides ANYONE with a free card that offers up to 45% savings on common medications. The cards are accessible through an app, via website, or in paper format and can be accepted at major pharmacies, such as HyVee, CVS, Walgreens and Walmart.

Students at UMR will be volunteering their time to provide FamilyWize outreach. These UMR students are a part of the campus club Health CORE, a living-learning community focused on merging volunteering, professional development, and community development. Health CORE students will be reaching out to local businesses, churches, and nonprofits to spread the awareness about FamilyWize.

United Way fights for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in our community, and FamilyWize is a wonderful example of those efforts. The goal of this outreach collaboration is to have representatives from each organization provide FamilyWize materials and be able to clearly express the value of the program to their consumers. In 2018, this prescription card helped around 5,300 community members in Olmsted and Winona counties save nearly $91,000 collectively on their prescriptions.

Together, we can help our friends and neighbors access necessary healthcare. If your business, community group, faith institution, or organization would like a visit from one of our volunteers, please reach out to Derrick Fritz at United Way is excited to inform you of future progress to be made by this initiative.
