People in Need
Nearly 2,000 of Olmsted County’s most needy felt the warmth of a caring community last October when they received donated winter outerwear through the annual Community Winter Outerwear collection. United Way is once again partnering with The Salvation Army to meet people’s basic need of warm clothing this winter with a collection beginning September 1 and going through Monday, October 5.
This year, 1,684 adults and 2,677 youth in our community have asked us for help with a winter coat!
Please contact The Salvation Army at 507-288-3663 or go to The Salvation Army Service Center (20 1st Avenue NE, Rochester MN 55904) Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. (closed from 12 p.m. - 12:30 p.m.) to get a voucher for a winter coat.
Individuals and families that are registered were mailed a postcard voucher the week of October 5. If you have questions, please call 507-529-4831.
The number of winter coats distributed will be based on the number of coats collected through our Community Winter Outerwear initiative.
This year, Community Winter Outerwear has partnered with The Salvation Army's south Store to distribute collected winter coats and winter accessories. Families and individuals that are registered received a voucher in the mail the first week in October to use to shop for a winter coat October 20 - November 30 at The Salvation Army south Store. Only families and individuals with a Community Winter Outerwear voucher will receive a free winter coat.
